This tragedy will have rippling effects

About one year ago today, Hurricane Michael ripped through the panhandle of Florida as a category 5 hurricane with winds over 160 mph. The storm killed more than two dozen and destroyed thousands of homes and many businesses. It also brought catastrophic damage on the region's timber industry as less than one-fifth of the timberland destroyed has been salvaged. It's estimated that the timber industry sustained nearly $1.3 billion in losses. Unlike other types of commodities, timber isn't usually insurable for loss.
